Ohio State Football: Three reasons why Kyle McCord should start at QB
By Ryan Stano
Kyle McCord has more talent than C.J. Stroud
I’ve said it for a long time now, McCord is just more talented than Stroud is at this point. He has the stronger arm, the vision, and the precision to get the job done. I really like the way this kid can throw the ball up and down the field.
McCord simply gives the Buckeyes the best chance to win right now. He’s not afraid to make any throws out there and can really help this offense out. I truly believe he has the most talent in the quarterback room right now, but Quinn Ewers will eventually be more talented.
Speaking of Ewers, he might be the reason why Day is reluctant to make a quarterback change right now. Even though Ewers is on the team right now, he is not anywhere near ready to take over this offense. He joined the team way too late and missed too many valuable reps.
That doesn’t mean he won’t be ready to do so next year. Day could be thinking that if Stroud struggles this season, he has a reason to anoint Ewers as the starter next season without messing up the room too much.
Taking McCord out of the starting position as a freshman for Ewers would make things very messy, especially if McCord plays well. This might be the cleanest thing for Day to do. He shouldn’t be thinking like that, but it wouldn’t shock me if he was.
These are the main reasons why McCord should start against Akron. He probably won’t even though he should.
