Ohio State Football: Henderson saves Bucks vs. Tulsa

The Ohio State football team was supposed to have an improved defense for this game. They were supposed to have made changes and fix whatever issues they had against Oregon. That ended up not being the case, and the Buckeyes struggled in their 41-20 victory over Tulsa.

That score was not indicative of how close this game was for most of the contest. It was a one-score game until late in the fourth quarter when C.J. Stroud found Garrett Wilson for a touchdown. A pick-six by Cameron Martinez on the next series is what made the gap so large in the final score.

Once again, the Buckeyes failed to get pressure on the quarterback. They were only able to muster up two sacks against a team that has far less talent than they do. Kerry Coombs was up in the press box today. His next move might be off of campus after this poor performance.

It wasn’t just the defense that struggled. The offense was in a bad way for most of the contest. C.J. Stroud played very poorly, only completing 15 passes out of 25 attempts for 185 yards and that one score. He also threw one of the worst picks I’ve seen in a while.

Chris Olave was a no-show as well. He only got targeted twice in this entire game. He dropped one pass and then had another long gain negated by a penalty. There was some baffling play calling by Ryan Day on offense. It doesn’t seem that they trust Stroud to throw it down the field.

Freshman TreVeyon Henderson saved Ohio State. He ran the ball 23 times for an Ohio State football freshman record 270 yards and 3 touchdowns. If he didn’t kill it, the Buckeyes would have been in huge trouble. Henderson is a stud and is clearly the best back Ohio State has.

Henderson was the one bright spot in this performance. Once again, Day has a lot of questions to answer about this football team. This didn’t look like a good team.
