Ohio State football: Winners, losers from OSU vs. Oregon
By Alex Austin
The Ohio State wide receiving group came alive and showed the potential this offense can have.
When a trio of wide receivers all have great games, that says a lot about what Ohio State wide receivers might be able to accomplish this year. Chris Olave was his usual dominating player. He went for over 125 yards and led the team in catches with 12.
At 10.5 yards per reception, he was a good threat all day. Garrett Wilson only had 117 yards but he did haul in the first touchdown pass on the day for the Buckeyes. But, the most exciting standout was Jaxon Smith-Njigba who converted on some of the biggest plays for Ohio State, gaining 145 yards and two touchdowns.
There has been a lot of hype about what this unit might be able to accomplish this year, but this was the first game where all three players shined and showed what this team can become. If the offense can clean up a few penalties and increase their conversion percentage, this unit has a chance to be really special. As far as the passing game, there was a lot to like and get excited about for the rest of the year.
The problem is that the Buckeyes weren’t able to punch it in the end zone enough when it really mattered. That still has to get fixed. The next player we’re going to talk about has to deal with the special teams.
