The worst-case scenarios for Ohio State trying to get back in the College Football Playoffs.

Ohio State needs each conference to have a chance at making the playoffs. One of the biggest things that would hurt the Buckeye dreams would be the SEC taking two slots. Right now Alabama and Georgia seem destined for a collision in the SEC Championship game.

If both teams arrive undefeated, they will almost be guaranteed to both make the playoffs. Ohio State needs one of these teams to lose and then lose again in the SEC Championships so that the loser of the SEC Championship game has two losses.

The other thing that could really hurt the Buckeyes is a team outside the Power Five making a push. Currently, Notre Dame and Cincinnati both stand in the way of Ohio State and the top four. They do play each other, so we know both cannot end the season undefeated, but if one of these teams wins each game it would be hard to keep them out of the Playoffs. The Buckeyes will have to hope that both teams suffer at least one loss this year.

The hope for the College Football Playoffs is not over, but right now it is more tenuous. The Buckeyes will be trying to replicate the feelings and results of 2014 at the end of the year.
