The Ohio State football team played a lot of different players on both sides of the ball in Week 1. That includes the running back position. in the entire game, the Buckeyes played four running backs against Minnesota. That’s not something that should happen in Week 2.

Ryan Day needs to shrink his rotation to just two running backs. Those two running backs are the two who performed the best in Week 1. Those guys are Miyan Williams and TreVeyon Henderson. They were by far the two best backs in Minneapolis and are the two best on the roster.

Williams was a surprise starter in this game. Everyone thought that Master Teague was going to start, including me. But it was Williams who was the first back out there and he did not disappoint. He had a 71-yard touchdown run on the first series. Unfortunately, He only played one more series in the first half.

Williams ended up finishing with just 9 carries for 125 yards and that score. It was a crime that he got less than 10 touches on the ground. I’m not ready to say that he is the most talented back on the roster, but his performance on Saturday does not merit a demotion.

The Ohio State football team should play only two running backs.

Henderson got the ball much less than Williams did. The transcendent freshman only had two carries for 15 yards. The reason he deserves more playing time is because of his one catch. He took a swing pass 70 yards to the house with a burst of speed that the backfield has been lacking.

These are the two running backs that deserve to see the field the most. Teague just doesn’t have the same upside that these guys have. He doesn’t hit the hole with as much explosion. The same can be said for Marcus Crowley. He should be fourth on the depth chart.

If Ohio State wants to beat Oregon on Saturday, they will only play these two running backs while the game is close. They are the most talented players and should get the treatment as such. I understand Day wants to play depth, but not in this game.

Next. Week 2 will define OSU's season. dark

It will be interesting to see what the Buckeyes do at this position on Saturday afternoon.
