Ohio State Football: 5 winners and 2 losers from OSU vs. Minnesota
By Alex Austin
Early season jitters were on display, but shouldn’t be a problem the whole season
There were plenty of players getting meaningful snaps for the first time in their careers. There led to missed opportunities and penalties that were costly for the Buckeyes. Luckily there was nothing that happened that Ohio State was not able to overcome against the Golden Gophers.
The most obvious example was C.J. Stroud who struggled in the first half. Stroud was not able to get into a rhythm and found his team trailing going into the half. Though he turned things around from a stat perspective, there are still things he needs to work on.
Stroud found wide-open receivers who then did the work to get into the endzone rather than creating big plays. I would expect Oregon to show a more confident Stroud who helps carry the offense.
Outside of Stroud, some penalties seemed to come from overexcitement rather than fundamental mistakes which I expect will be changed by next week as well. It was the first game for a lot of these players so they should be able to handle their nerves better next week.
The final loser from Week 1 was more of a group of players than any one specific guy.
