Fix the footwork

The first thing that C.J. Stroud has to fix is his footwork. There were plenty of times in the first half where he had happy feet in the pocket. He just wasn’t comfortable for whatever reason. It very well could have been first-game jitters. I mean, take a look at the photo above. That’s not good footwork for a throw.

Stroud has to set his feet before he throws against Oregon. Having a strong foundation allows you to throw more accurately. Bad footwork is what led to the interception he threw when he missed Chris Olave by about five feet.

I think this is something that’s pretty easy to correct. Now that he has a full game under his belt, he’s going to feel more comfortable. He now knows what it feels like with defenders flying around him when he has to step up and make a throw.

If Stroud doesn’t fix his footwork, he’s going to continue to miss receivers. Missing receivers against Minnesota only resulted in one interception because Minnesota isn’t a great team. Missing receivers against Oregon is a different deal. They will take advantage of missed throws more.

The second thing that Stroud has to correct before next week has to do with his vision.
