Ohio State Football: 6 players who will determine OSU’s success

The Buckeyes are targeting a specific record to break this year
To be a record holder at Ohio State is a big deal. The program has been around for a long time and has seen tremendous stretches of greatness. With so many National Champion and Heisman winners to play for the Buckeyes, the record holders are usually the best of the best. This year, Ryan Day is looking a breaking a specific record that will prove to be a huge difference-maker.
When asked about if Jeremy Ruckert, Ryan Day made it clear the Ohio State record for 30 catches by a tight end in a season “has no chance” of holding up this year. A breakout year from Ruckert would look to make the Buckeye offense unstoppable. With Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson already a tall task to defend, add in a tight end that can create a mismatch against almost any defender, and C.J. Stroud will have his choice of open receivers.
If Ruckert really can live up to the hype and have a career year, he has the potential to truly transform this offense. On a team with already high expectations on the offensive side of the ball, the Buckeyes could easily be the best team in the country.
Having a tight end of Ruckert’s abilities is huge for an offense that already has dangerous pass-catchers on the outside. Ruckert’s size is a matchup nightmare for defenses. He could be used a lot in the red zone when the Buckeyes are close to the goal-line.
The next player on this list is someone who touches the ball on every play.
