The Buckeyes need to get back to having a lockdown corner

Sevyn Banks saw the field last year as the number two cornerback behind Shaun Wade. Wade came back hoping to improve his draft stock last year but ended up struggling in his move to an outside corner rather than strictly a slot corner. Banks was able to learn the ropes of starting and mostly hold his own throughout the season. Last year, however, the Ohio State secondary struggled.

If the Buckeyes want to take the next step and win the National Championship they need to see an improvement from their secondary. The ability to put corners on an island is a trademark of Ohio State. Banks will need to lead the way to be able to defend the best receiver on the opposing team one-on-one and shut him down. There is a lot of hype and the talent is there, but showing the results on the field is what matters the most.

Ohio State will need to show why they are BIA again this year and Banks should be the leader of this unit. If Banks struggles, the Buckeyes may struggle against some of the prolific passing attacks outside the Big Ten.

The secondary is the biggest thing that the Buckeyes have to improve on this season. If they don’t, they risk losing a game or two. Banks improving and stepping up would be massive for this team. It would give them a real chance to get back to that title game.

The next person on this list is someone else on the defensive line who is looking to have a great year before leaving for the NFL.
