Former Ohio State Football player Tate Martell almost quit football
By Ryan Stano
Former Ohio State football player Tate Martell has not had the kind of college career that he thought he would. After being a four-star recruit out of Las Vegas, he had high hopes of leading the Buckeyes as the starting quarterback soon after he arrived.
Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. As soon as Justin Fields transferred in, he transferred out. Martell left for Miami. Martell didn’t do much there and has left once again, this time for UNLV. This will no doubt be the last chance for him to do something on the football field.
Martell recently revealed that he actually almost quit football before UNLV asked about him. Now, he’s trying his best to make a difference for them on the field. Martell detailed this on his Tik Tok account, where you can see his description of his events here.
It’s interesting that Martell has taken this winding road in his college football journey. He is an extremely confident young man, bordering on cocky. He seems like he’s also got the perseverance to keep trying through his failures. That is an impressive trait.
Martell is still recovering from thumb surgery, so he’s not currently listed on UNLV’s depth chart. It looks like he will have to overcome one more obstacle if he wants to contribute to a college football program. It’s unclear how good he’ll be once he’s fully healed.
I wonder what Martell will do after college. Football is not in his future, so I wonder what he decides to do next in life. He seems like a prime candidate for some reality shows. He’s already been on one, so why not try to do another and capitalize on your fame while you can?
However his story ends up, he’s a polarizing figure among Ohio State football fans. People seem to follow his story.
