As we inch closer to the season starting, there’s one major position on the field that should worry Ohio State football fans.

We have previewed a lot of stuff here at Scarlet and Game. The previews have almost come to an end as the Ohio State football team will face off against Minnesota just one week from today. After that, we will have some solid game analysis to cover.

As we have looked up and down the roster and seen reports come out of practice, there is still one position on the field that should worry fans. That position is cornerback. Not a single player has stepped up from that position group to take over a number one spot.

I have stressed the need for someone to do that in the secondary in general. And yet, just one week away from the opener, no one has done so. A lot of players are getting first-team reps in practice. Some would say that’s a sign of how much depth the team has. I think it’s more concerning than that.

I think the main reason why so many different corners are getting those reps is because the Buckeyes still don’t know who their best corners are. No one has made enough plays to put a stranglehold on a job. That’s not the position you want to be in at this point in the preseason.

Sadly, I don’t think anything is going to change between now and 8 pm next Thursday. The Buckeyes will trot out guys who they don’t feel fully confident in. Now, that doesn’t mean these guys can’t improve. In fact, I expect them to. I just get nervous that they haven’t already.

Next. Ohio State Football could have historic offense in 2021. dark

There’s no better way to improve than to get live game reps in. I just hope those improvements come rather rapidly.
