Now that he is on the roster of the Ohio State football team, what is Ryan Day’s plan for the highest-rated Buckeye recruit?

Recently, it was announced that elite quarterback prospect Quinn Ewers would be foregoing his senior year of high school to join the Ohio State football team a year early.

With him being one of the most highly touted prospects in the past few years and the Buckeyes already having C.J. Stroud as a starting quarterback, it has caused many to wonder what exactly Ohio State will be doing with Ewers this season.

C.J. Stroud will be the starting quarterback heading into week one against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. However, that does not mean that he will remain the starter for the remainder of the season.

It is likely that Stroud will be kept on a very short leash and will have to come out playing to the elite level that is expected from an Ohio State quarterback if he wants to hold on to the starting job.

It would not be surprising to see Ewers make an appearance as soon as week one for the Buckeyes. If things are going well for the team against Minnesota, the backups will likely finish the game up and give Ewers his first appearance in the scarlet and gray.

Up to this point, it appears that it is Stroud’s spot to lose. Ewers came into the QB competition very late and as a result of that, he still has too much catching up to do before even being considered as the starting quarterback.

According to Ryan Day in an interview with Big Ten Network, “You know, there’s a lot going on right now for Quinn, a lot coming at him. I think he’s done a really good job so far of not, kind of, you know, just jumping into it. He’s showing respect to the guys around him and I think that the guys appreciate that. So, we’ve been getting some work with him at the end of practice, he’s been jumping in individual drills and picking up everything fast. But he’s certainly drinking through a firehose, and I think the guys on the team appreciate that. He doesn’t have the recruits that, you know, was in his class. He kind of jumped ahead so. But he’s a resilient young man.”

If an injury unfortunately takes Stroud out of competition this season or he does not play to the level expected of him, Ewers will be there eagerly waiting to fill the starting QB spot.

However, if Stroud plays at the elite level he is projected, he will likely remain the starting quarterback this season while the coaching staff works on developing Ewers for next season.

For the time being, Buckeye fans can still expect him to come in and turn heads in games that the Buckeyes have big leads in.
