After being named the starting quarterback for the Ohio State football team, C.J. Stroud knows that the running game is going to be an important part of his success.

Ryan Day has shown that he wants the Ohio State football team to be a very successful run team. The past two seasons, running backs have been a large part of the offensive gameplan. J.K. Dobbins in 2019 and the combination of Master Teague and Trey Sermon last year were great.

This year won’t be any different. In fact, it might be more important for the running game to be really good. Stroud has not thrown a collegiate pass in his career. He knows that play-action is going to be a big part of his success.

In order for play-action to work, TreyVeon Henderson has to really shine. It seems like he is emerging as the starting running back, so he has to help carry the offense. That is especially true early on while Stroud is getting his feet wet in the first couple of games.

Stroud is still a great talent. He wouldn’t be the starter for the Buckeyes if he didn’t possess a large amount of talent. He is still going to be able to unleash his strong arm early in the season as well. With how good his receivers are, he is going to want to take deep shots.

Even if he doesn’t do it very early on, he eventually will. The running backs will help him be more comfortable in the offense and will help him put up big numbers. I can’t wait to watch him in the opener and find out how he looks against real competition.
