The Ohio State defense will outscore an opponent

This prediction has two difficult parts that will need to happen in order to happen. First, is the Ohio State defense will have to hold an opponent to less than a touchdown. Sure, the Buckeyes could have a game where the defense has multiple touchdowns and will give themselves some wiggle room in giving up points, but more than likely Ohio State will need to hold a team scoreless or at the most two field goals.

The second part is matching this game up with a game where the defense scores a touchdown. As previously mentioned, I think the Buckeyes are able to get in the endzone after a turnover several times this year. This is more likely to happen against a weaker opponent where the athletic talents of Ohio State players can be put on full display.

This would be an incredible achievement and would hopefully give the unit some needed confidence to compete against the top offenses they will hope to play against the College Football Playoffs. In 2019, the Buckeyes held opponents to a touchdown or less on five separate occasions, so a unit similar to 2019 would have enough opportunities for the defense to win the game.

Only time will tell if the Buckeyes can improve enough on the defensive side of the ball to be considered a truly elite team. They have the talent to do it. They just have to put all of the pieces together this season and show it.
