Ohio State Football: Breaking down Ohio State’s quarterback competition
By Alex Austin
The Candidates
C.J. Stroud
A four-star prospect in the 2020 class, Stroud joined the Buckeyes as the second quarterback in the recruiting class. He brings with him a lot of athletic ability and the promise that he can continue improving his game after being a two-sport athlete in high school. A highly regarded deep ball brings excitement with his ability to click with Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson.
Jack Miller
The first quarterback to commit to the Buckeyes in 2020 was Jack Miller. The four-star prospect out of Scottsdale, Arizona was rated as the 13th best pro-style quarterback in the class. Miller is a big quarterback who throws hard and fast. His ability to stay calm under pressure and get the ball out quick to any of his talented receivers and let them make plays in the open field makes him an exciting option.
Kyle McCord
Kyle McCord was a five-star prospect in the 2021 class for Ohio State. McCord’s strength is his ability to make accurate passes quickly to let the receiver make plays. With plenty of arm strength, he can make any throw on the field. He can scramble out of the pocket when needed and still make a good throw.
Quinn Ewers
The most recent addition to the quarterback competition is Quinn Ewers. Typically a true freshman joining the competition late would not even get a look, however, when that player is the best player Ohio State has ever signed all eyes turn to him. Ewers shows a tremendous talent for making the right read and has the strength and touch to get the ball where it needs to be.
