Ryan Day has already hinted about the next big playmaker on the Buckeyes’ offense

It has been widely talked about that the Buckeyes have one of the best, if not the best, wide receiver groups in all of college football. When Chris Olave came back he solidified that this group has all the pieces to be really special. One player that could benefit from this talented group and take a huge step forward is Jeremy Ruckert.

Ruckert plays tight end which historically is not a position that the Buckeyes use much in the passing game. This season Ryan Day has said that Ohio State is going to be implementing a lot more schemes to get the tight ends involved in the passing game. According to Day, there is “no chance” that Ruckert gets less than 31 catches this year. This production would make Ruckert the season record holder for tight end receptions.

With the number of talent defenses will have to use to try and slow down the wide receivers, Ruckert will likely have plenty of mismatches in the passing game. Especially with a new quarterback, this could provide just the right amount of safety. Expect Ruckert to become one of the best tight ends in college football and be expected to be one of the top draft choices at his position.

If Ruckert is able to produce at the levels Day is talking about, this offense becomes virtually unstoppable. He is a big matchup nightmare that can confuse defenses. The last player on this list is a sophomore who should take a big step in his development.
