Ohio State Football coaches have to recruit differently with NIL
By Ryan Stano
Now that NIL is a part of college sports, members of the Ohio State football coaching staff will have to recruit differently to attract top prospects.
NIL has a lot of ramifications up and down college sports. The Ohio State football program, like every other college program in the country, will have to adapt to the changing circumstances. It will change how they approach recruiting certain prospects.
Top-level talent will now go where they think they have the best chance to get to the next level AND make the most money. NIL bridges the gap from top-level programs to programs that have the boosters who will pay the most money to get top prospects.
Programs like Miami, Texas, and Florida State, who haven’t been in the CFP discussion over the last few years, will now have a chance to get great recruits because of NIL. Boosters will funnel money to recruits to entice them to come to those types of programs.
Because of that, top programs like Ohio State will have to change their recruiting tactics. They will have to show recruits that they can not only succeed best at the NFL level if they come to Columbus, but they can make money now while they are in school.
It will take a little bit of time for coaches to adjust to the new rules and recruit the best way they can with those new rules in place. This is something that Ryan Day has known is on the horizon and he should have a plan in place to keep top players interested.
Despite losing some great prospects recently, the Buckeyes should bounce back and grab some great talent down the line in next year’s class and the 2023 class. The Buckeyes will be prepared for the new challenges that will come their way.
