According to Ryan Day, the Ohio State football player will miss most of the season with an undisclosed injury.

We wrote yesterday that the Ohio State football team is mostly healthy heading into Fall camp. The key word there is most. That doesn’t mean that no one is dealing with injury concerns. Tyler Friday is that player who is dealing with a big-time injury.

In speaking with the media today at practice, he mentioned that Tyler Friday will miss most of the season with an injury. He did not disclose what type of injury it is. It’s a blow for a player who was expected to fight for a starting defensive end position opposite of Zach Harrison.

It’s never good to lose a player for that long, but this isn’t a devastating blow for the Buckeyes. Defensive end is probably the deepest position group on this team. This just gives J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer more of an opportunity to step up and earn significant snaps.

Of position groups who could withstand an injury, this one is in that group. This will still be a formidable group of players that can create havoc in the backfield. There is also still a chance that Friday comes back at the end of the season if the Buckeyes really need him.

That’s not a likely scenario though. I’d be shocked if Friday didn’t redshirt this season and get himself healthy for next season. Unfortunately, he may have lost his opportunity to start because of this. He’s going to get passed up on the depth chart this season.

dark. Next. Balancing the old and the new in college football

This isn’t a great way to start Fall practice. Hopefully, this is the worst news that Buckeye fans get this season. Every day of practice will bring us something new though.
