It sure sounds like the Ohio State football program will have another quarterback vying for the starting job. Based on the chatter around the program, Ewers could enroll later this month.

The Ohio State football program has done a phenomenal job recruiting quarterbacks the last few years. Those recruiting efforts are about to culminate this season now that they have three guys competing for the starting position in the 2021 season.

It looks like you might be able to add a fourth. There are rumors floating around that Quinn Ewers, the highest-rated recruit to ever commit to the Ohio State football program, has told Ryan Day that he plans to enroll at the university later this month.

Ewers had already been debating the decision for a while. He also knows that he would need to make that decision very soon if he wants to have any shot at all of winning the starting job right out of the gate. If he enrolls too late, he’ll be too far behind to have any chance.

He might be too far behind already. Considering it’s now August, the team is getting ready to start practices very soon. Ewers has already missed Spring practice and some summer work. All three of the other quarterbacks have been able to get work in during those time periods.

At this point, I would be absolutely stunned if Ewers was the starter against Minnesota. I’m fairly certain he will enroll this year and skip his senior year of high school, but he’s not ready to start at the college level. He needs more time to practice with the Buckeyes and learn the offense.

C.J. Stroud, Kyle McCord, and Jack Miller will be the three that truly get a chance to start week one. The only shot Ewers has to start this season is if he somehow overtakes one of those three in the middle of the season.
