Ohio State Buckeyes: #1 recruiting class in 2022 for football and basketball
By Zane Harris
Even with a de-commitment on the football side of things last night, Ohio State is looking pretty darn good on the recruiting trail.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have continued to dominate the recruiting trail in both football and basketball.
The university is clearly known as a football school, however, with the amazing work Chris Holtmann has done with the basketball program, an argument must be made that Ohio State has the best one-two punch in the country.
This season, the Buckeyes finished their football season with a loss in the National Championship and their basketball season with an enormous upset loss to Oral Roberts. However, it appears that the rich are only getting richer and the Buckeyes are retooling better than any other school in the country.
Both the football and basketball programs have the top-ranked recruiting class for the class of 2022. There are some big names to highlight for each sport.
Football Recruits
The football program is ranked first by rivals.com with 2636 points. They already have 17 commits. This includes four five-stars, twelve four-stars, and one three-star. The Buckeyes have also netted two of the top ten prospects from the class of 2022.
This is even more impressive when taking into account that only five of the top ten have committed already. One of the top ten prospects that have committed to the Buckeyes is quarterback Quinn Ewers.
Ewers is a pro-style quarterback from Texas who has already drawn comparisons to Trevor Lawrence and Patrick Mahomes. While these are enormous shoes to fill, Ewers appears to be prepared to try his best to fill them.
He will be coming into a packed quarterback room at Ohio State and it will be very interesting to see how Ryan Day and his coaching staff handle that situation when the time comes.
The second top ten prospect that has committed to the Buckeyes is Jaheim Singletary. Singletary is the fifth-ranked prospect in the class of 2022. He is a cornerback from Florida. Ohio State already has an incredible track record of turning defensive backs into elite NFL talent and Singletary will be no exception.
Basketball Program
While the basketball program has not quite had the dominant recruiting that the football program has, the basketball class of 2022 is nothing to scoff at. They have acquired three commits from the top 150 players and have a team class ranking of first.
So far, the Buckeyes have gotten one five-star, two four-stars, and one three-star to commit to the team. The three commits from the top 150 are Bruce Thorton, Roddy Gayle Jr., and Felix Okpara.
Thorton is a 6’2″ point guard from Alabama. He is ranked as 20th in the nation and 4th at point guard. Gayle is a 6’5″ shooting guard from Utah. He is ranked 41st in the nation and 8th at shooting guard. Okpara is a 6’10” center from Tennessee. He is ranked 50th in the nation and 9th at center.
The future is extremely bright for both football and basketball at The Ohio State University. They are making their mark as the best recruiting school in the country. The only question left to answer is if they can mold and develop this talent into championships and players ready to perform at the next level.
