The Ohio State football program continues to flood preseason watchlists with players from all over the field as the 2021 season is close to getting underway.

If preseason watchlists are any indication, the Ohio State football team has an excellent shot at playing for a national championship yet again this season. Several Buckeyes have had their names pop up on various lists this season, including more today.

We already knew that Haskell Garrett, Zach Harrison, Chris Olave, and Garrett Wilson were on several different watchlists. Now add Sevyn Banks to the list as he is on the watchlist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given to the nation’s best defensive back.

Banks is also on the Nagurski watchlist, as is Harrison and Garrett. That is given to the best overall defensive player in the country. A couple of offensive linemen have made some watchlists too, as Thayer Munford and Nicholas Petit-Frere are on that preseason list.

Having all of these players on preseason lists is great. But they are just preseason lists. Nothing has happened yet and none of these guys have earned anything this season. They all know that. They just have to go out and play and try to win as many games as possible.

Still, having this many people on the list is indicative of how much talent this team has on it. A team with that much talent should be playing late in the year for some pretty high stakes. Now all Ryan Day has to do is put all the pieces together and make them fit.

If all of these guys have solid years, they could end up being first-round picks in next season’s Draft. That is their ultimate individual goal, but all of them want the team goal even more. That goal is to win that elusive national title.
