Ohio State basketball lands the big man they need
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team doesn’t have a true center on the roster. They finally were able to grab one for the class of 2022.
Perhaps the biggest hole in the Ohio State basketball roster is the lack of a true center. They don’t currently have a big man that can protect the rim and be a physical force in the post. Chris Holtmann finally changed that with his latest recruiting win in the class of 2022.
Holtmann was able to land Felix Okpara, a 6’11 center from Chattanooga, Tennessee, is the lastest member of the 2022 class for the Buckeyes. Okpara is listed as a four-star kid and is the 47th best player in the country and is the second-best player in the state of Tennessee.
Okpara has some skill down low. He can finish with authority and can do some things on the pick and roll. Defense is where I’m most excited to see him though because that’s where he’s at his best. He can really block shots well and moves laterally pretty well for a guy of his size.
Ohio State has been lacking a defensive presence down low for quite some time. It’s got them in trouble at times. They will finally have that in 2022. Okpara has some great upside but needs refinement in his offensive skills. His post-game is just okay right now.
The Buckeyes continue to sport the best recruiting class in the country. In fact, they have the best recruiting class for both football and basketball in the class of 2022. Chris Holtmann and Ryan Day are doing great things for Ohio State athletics right now on the recruiting trail.
This is probably the last player that Holtmann will be adding to this class, but it’s a great one. I can’t wait to watch this kid play in the physical Big Ten!
