Ohio State basketball alumni win first TBT game after slow start
By Ryan Stano
A group of former Ohio State basketball players was able to win their first TBT game. Carmen’s Crew won after a slow start to start off the 2021 TBT campaign in a good way.
Carmen’s Crew had a good start to the TBT after a poor showing in 2020. In that poor showing, the group of former Ohio State basketball players got upset in the first round as they were trying to defend their title after winning the grand prize back in 2019.
This time, there was no such problem. David Lighty led the way in scoring with 19 points. He was the main source of offense for Carmen’s Crew. He helped them win 77-65 over 16-seeded Mid American Unity. Carmen’s Crew is the one-seed in their region.
Kosta Koufos made his TBT debut in a big way. The former Buckeye big man had 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks. He was dominant at points in this game. Koufos will likely be a big part of this team moving forward as he is their best low-post presence.
William Buford added 14 points as well. Carmen’s Crew started off slowly and only held a slight lead at halftime. They pulled away in the fourth quarter and weren’t really challenged in that frame. They took care of business just like they should have.
Carmen’s Crew played on Ohio State’s campus at the Covelli Center. They will now face Purdue’s TBT team on Sunday. That team has a foe a lot of these former Buckeyes are familiar with in Robbie Hummel. It should be a pretty good game and might be one of the best of the whole tournament.
Every game of the TBT can be found on ESPN, ESPN 2, or on ESPN 3. You can watch Carmen’s crew the entire way and watch them try to capture their second title in three years.
