Ohio State Football’s most overrated player
By Ryan Stano
We always talk about who is underrated on the roster. I want to take a look at who could be the most overrated player on the Ohio State football team.
The Ohio State football roster is loaded with talent. They are every year because of the excellent job Ryan Day and his staff does with recruiting. With all of that talent accumulated, there are bound to be players who don’t quite live up to expectations.
I want to take a look at who could be the most overrated player that the Buckeyes have on the roster right now. I know most Buckeye fans don’t want to think of any player on the roster as overrated, but every roster has those types of players.
The player that I believe is the most overrated on the current roster is Tyreke Smith. Smith came in as a four-star defensive end from the Cleveland area. He was expected to be a great pass rusher with the Buckeyes. The numbers don’t match the expectations so far in his career.
In three years with the Ohio State football program, Smith has only managed a total of 29 tackles and just four sacks. In fact, he’s only played 20 games with the Buckeyes thus far. Now he had some great players ahead of him at times, but he should be seeing the field more if he was having more of an impact.
Smith has a chance to start this season and put more of a stamp on the game with his production. If he doesn’t, it will be really easy to replace him with one of the stud freshmen behind him. I see that happening sooner than later. I hope I’m wrong though.
I would love nothing more than to see Smith prove me wrong and go out and dominate this season. I just don’t see it happening.
