Ohio State football: Buckeyes may have ball sharing problem

There is only one football to go around and several Ohio State football players deserve to get it. How will the coaching staff manage this problem?

The Ohio State football team will have one of the most explosive offenses in all of college football. When you have such an explosive offense, it’s hard to distribute the ball to everyone who should get it. That’s a problem the Buckeyes are going to have this year.

Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson might be the two best wide receivers in the country. They are going to need plenty of targets and should get them. They will definitely get the most targets of anyone in that very talented receiving group. Neither of them will have issues getting touches.

Other receivers might though. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is next in line for touches at receiver in the slot, but the Buckeyes also have Julian Fleming in that room too. You have to get the ball to the number one overall recruit from a year ago. Then there are the talented freshman from this year’s class coming in.

Marvin Harrison Jr. showed that he could be a future superstar after his Spring Game performance.  He likely won’t get very many catches at all just because of how crowded the wide receiver room is. We haven’t even talked about Jeremey Ruckert yet either.

Ruckert is a weapon at the tight end spot. He will be used a lot more this season in the red zone. I would expect him to get a decent amount of touchdowns because of his size and soft hands. He can be a nice security blanket on third down too.

The running back room needs to be fed too. Master Teague and TreyVeon Henderson need their touches. We know how important the running game is to Ryan Day’s offense. They will have the ball a lot of the time too.

Quite simply, some players aren’t going to be happy with their touches this season. There are just too many good players. But that’s a great problem for Day and his staff to have.
