The Ohio State football program was lucky when they were able to swoop in and grab Kevin Wilson as an assistant coach. Now, he has become an extremely underrated reason as to why the Buckeyes have had the success they’ve had.

Kevin Wilson was a pretty darn good head coach while he was at Indiana. Some of his teams gave the Ohio State football program fits. In fact, I was there when his 2012 team almost came back to upset the Buckeyes in Bloomington. It was scary stuff.

Now that Wilson is a part of the Buckeyes’ staff, he has somehow become very underrated. People don’t seem to give him credit for the offense. Most media and fans seem to give Ryan Day a bulk of the credit, which is fair and I understand why they do. But Wilson deserves credit too.

Wilson has been able to keep the offense running at a high level since moving into the Offensive Coordinator role. His work in the tight end room has also been impressive. He has transformed Jeremy Ruckert into a true weapon at tight end and he could have a monster 2021.

I’m not entirely sure how much longer Day will be able to keep Wilson on his staff. He has been of interest to MAC programs for head coaching positions in the past. The first time a Power 5 school comes calling I have a feeling Wilson will take that job.

Wilson should get more of the recognition that he deserves. He isn’t the offensive genius that Day is, but he is still pretty darn smart. Ohio State is a better offense when Wilson is at his best. They better enjoy him while they still have him because he is a great resource for Day.

Ryan Day shown insane disrespect. dark. Next

Wilson has definitely helped Day become a better head coach. I’m glad he’s on staff for at least one more year in Columbus.
