Ohio State basketball: What transfer Cedric Russell brings

The Ohio State basketball team has landed a transfer guard to soften the blow of losing Duane Washington to the NBA. Here’s what he brings to the Buckeyes.
Duane Washington is headed to the NBA. He leaves behind 16.4 points per game that he was scoring for the Ohio State basketball team. Now that left the Buckeyes with a big hole to fill in the backcourt. They have been able to fill that hole with a solid scorer.
That scorer is guard Cedric Russell. Russell will transfer to Ohio State from Louisiana according to Stadium’s Jeff Goodman.

As Goodman mentioned, Russell brings 17 points per game to Columbus. Not only can he score, but he can shoot the three-ball well too. Russell shot 40% from deep on a whopping 7.3 attempts from behind the arc. He can do some serious damage out there.
Having Russell in the backcourt helps out a Buckeye team that lost their best shooter in Washington. Having him on the court will ease the burden that E.J. Liddell was poised to carry next year of being the primary scorer. Liddell will still be the focal point of the offense, but he won’t have to carry the entire burden anymore.
This is the second transfer guard that Chris Holtmann has brought in this season. He added defensive specialist Jamari Wheeler from Penn State a couple of months ago. Now he gets someone who can score and create his own shot, which is something they desperately needed.

This Ohio State basketball team just became a lot more dangerous with Russell in the fold. Now Ohio State can score from inside and outside as well. I’m very curious to see who starts in the backcourt and who has to come off the bench.
