Ohio State football: Accumulation of talent requires results
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has accumulated a lot of talent over the last few years with its recruiting efforts. Now those efforts need to turn into results on the field.
The Ohio State football program has accumulated a lot of talent in the last few years because of great recruiting efforts. Those efforts have brought a lot of really good players into the program. In fact, they have the second-best recruiting class for 2021 and right now have the best one in 2022.
With all of that talent coming in, Ryan Day’s team is going to undergo a lot of scrutiny. That talent on the team is going to require expectations for the team to win championships. Not just Big Ten Championships, National Championships. This team has to win it all.
Players like J.T. Tuimoloau, Emeka Egbuka, Quinn Ewers, and Jack Sawyer are all five-star recruits. They are all the best of the best at their positions. When you’re that good, you’re expected to win almost immediately. That will be Day’s next challenge; managing these expectations.
This is not something that will catch Day off guard. He knows that if the team can’t win a national title in the next three years, the fanbase is going to get restless. To be honest, there is no reason why this team shouldn’t win at least one in the next three seasons.
If he doesn’t win a title, other programs are going to negatively recruit against Ohio State using that fact. Top talent will no longer want to come to Columbus. They will want to go to other programs that have a better chance of winning championships.
What Day does in the next few years will shape how Ohio State competes in the national landscape in the future. They have to win on the big stage to be the type of program they want to be.
