Ohio State football: More recruiting fireworks tomorrow?
By Del Barris
The recruiting fireworks for the Ohio State football team might just be beginning today. More could be coming tomorrow.
The Fourth of July fireworks are not only in the sky this year, there are plenty of them happening in Ohio State recruiting. We’re all well aware of J.T. Tuimoloau’s announcement today, but there is another happening tomorrow.
Suwanee, Georgia receiver Kojo Antwi will choose between the Buckeyes, Georgia, and Texas A&M. Georgia was considered the clear leader coming into June, but Ohio State made a very strong impression on him during his June 18th visit.
Academics are highly important to the Antwi family and they were very impressed with that side of the Buckeyes’ presentation. After his time in Columbus, you began to see more talk of him leaning towards Ohio State.
Yesterday, those from Georgia and Texas A&M felt Ohio State will be the choice for Antwi. This morning, Bucknuts recruiting expert Bill Kurelic reaffirmed his prediction of Ohio State. Rivals is almost an even split in their predictions. In an article published late yesterday afternoon, UGA Wire said Georgia is the slight leader. However, the consensus seems to be Antwi is going to become a Buckeye.
Antwi (6’0”, 190 pounds) is the nation’s number sixteen receiver and 115th player overall in the 2022 class, according to 247 Sports’ composite rankings. He shows the ability to turn a short reception into a long gain or blow the top off of coverage and get open deep.
If he chooses the Buckeyes he will be joining a loaded group of receivers already committed to this recruiting class. OSU already has the number two, four, and twenty-one players at this position.
The Buckeyes have had success recruiting the state of Georgia in recent years. Center Harry Miller and running back Steele Chambers were a part of the 2019 recruiting class. The nation’s number five cornerback, Jordan Hancock, signed as a member of the 2021 class. Tight end Bennet Christian committed to being a member of the 2022 class last September.
If Antwi gives Ohio State football fans good news tomorrow, not enough credit can be given to Ryan Day and receivers coach Brian Hartline for what has to be viewed as a come-from-behind win. Antwi’s announcement is scheduled for 11 AM Monday morning.
