Former Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer continues to struggle
By Ryan Stano
The former Ohio State football coach has had a rough start to his NFL tenure and it continues to get worse for him down in Jacksonville.
Urban Meyer has always had some controversy follow him where ever he has gone. Whether it was players having off-the-field problems at Florida or him lying about the Zach Smith situation while he was leading the Ohio State football program, he seems to keep making mistakes.
That hasn’t changed now that he has made the move to the NFL. Since taking over as the head man in Jacksonville, he has already had a few controversies. First, he hired Chris Doyle, who was accused of being racist while he was the strength coach at Iowa. Then, he had a weird Draft.
Now, he’s violating NFL rules. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jaguars were fined $200,000 for OTA violations. Meyer himself was fined $100,000. This was the team that had the biggest fine of the three teams that were fined for OTA violations.
It’s unclear what the violations were. The former Buckeye had to have been putting on pads too early. That’s the only thing that really makes sense. It’s either that or some sort of COVID protocol violation for OTA’s, although I feel like that would have been reported differently.
This shouldn’t be a huge surprise for anyone who followed the Ohio State football team during Meyer’s tenure. He is always trying to get an advantage and loves running his players hard. He wants to instill toughness in his team. It seems he went a little too far in this instance.
This certainly won’t be the last issue that comes up during Meyer’s tenure as coach of the Jaguars. The next year will certainly be interesting both on and off the field for Meyer and his team.
