If the Ohio State basketball team strikes out on Cockburn, they can still try to grab another center who has shown great capabilities at the college level in Tre Mitchell. Mitchell is a 6’9 junior who is coming from UMass that has great offensive skills around the hoop.

Mitchell averaged 18.8 points and 7.2 rebounds a game last year as a freshman. He was also able to block 1.5 shots a game as well. Mitchell not only has good touch around the hoop but is also a threat from behind the arc. He hit 37.5% of his threes while taking 3 of them a game.

Mitchell would give the Buckeyes an inside-out threat at center that they haven’t had since Kaleb Wesson left. Mitchell would help them spread the floor and make their offense even more lethal. The Buckeyes also struggled rebounding a year ago and Miller could help with that.

While Mitchell is just 6’9, he plays bigger than that size. He reminds me of a more athletic Wesson because of his ability to get the job down low with his positioning. Adding him to the lineup would be great for Chris Holtmann’s offense. He could help make up for the production that Washington had.

It’s unclear where Mitchell is considering or where he would go at this point. It’s also unclear if Holtmann or anyone from Ohio State has reached out to him at any point. In any case, it would be smart for them to at least take a look at Mitchell’s film and maybe reach out.

If any of these three guys were to join the Ohio State basketball team, it would make them a much more dangerous team. They would be one that is capable of making a deep run in the NCAA Tournament too.
