Ohio State football keeps having high standards
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program still has high standards and this season won’t do anything to change those standards.
The Ohio State football team has dominated the Big Ten and really the whole Midwest. Because of their track record of success, the Buckeyes have created an incredibly high standard for the fanbase. This season won’t be changing those expectations.
Ohio State hasn’t won less than 11 games since 2011 when Luke Fickell was the coach of the team. Urban Meyer won a lot of games in his tenure. Ryan Day has continued that winning tradition after taking over and now he has impossibly high standards.
Those high standards include Day winning every game this season just as he did last season. At this point, if Ohio State doesn’t go undefeated it’s a disappointing season. They have to win the national title for Buckeye fans to be happy with how things go.
Day knew this was going to be the case when he took the job over. He knows that this is the deal he has to do. If he doesn’t win all the games in 2021, it will be an abject failure after the Buckeyes did that in 2020. Is it bad that fans have absurdly high expectations?
In my opinion, I say no. High expectations mean that the program is in a great place. Being in that place is something that most football programs would kill to be in. This is why Ohio State’s recruiting is so important. They need great players to meet those expectations.
They should meet those expectations this season. I would expect this team to be very good and once again make the College Football Playoff.
