Ohio State football: Buckeyes in a waiting game
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team is now in a waiting pattern when it comes to top recruit J.T. Tuimoloau’s decision after he visited both Ohio State and Oregon.
There’s nothing more the Ohio State football program can do. They have made their pitches and have hosted their visit with J.T. Tuimoloau. They feel good about what they’ve said and what they’ve done to get him to commit to playing in Columbus.
Now the only left to do for the Buckeyes is wait. After Tuimoloau canceled his visit to Alabama, it seems that it has come down to Oregon and Ohio State. Ohio State feels confident, as they should, but Oregon has some things they can sell that Ohio State can’t.
Perhaps the biggest of those things is that Oregon is much closer to home. Tuimoloau is close to his family. His parents haven’t been stoked about the possibility that Tuimoloau could end up playing far from home. He’s from Washington, so Oregon is obviously much closer.
Oregon also has Kayvon Thibodeaux. He could perhaps be the first overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft. Having a talent like that on the team at the same position that Tuimoloau plays could be a big selling point. It shows that Oregon does a good job developing its players.
But if you want a program that has a track record developing defensive ends, look no further than Ohio State. They have both Bosa brothers and Chase Young to point to. They were all really good college players and are already excellent pro players.
We all just have to wait now on what Tuimoloau decides to do. He is in control of the situation now and should be making a decision relatively soon. I’d be shocked if he didn’t decide before July starts so he can enroll and get things moving with whichever program he chooses.
