Ohio State football: NIL bill could be delayed
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team will now have to wait on a potential NIL bill after politicians fell into their typical shenanigans.
Name, image, and likeness bills are being passed all over the country. Most states in the South have already passed such bills that allow college athletes to make money. Other states are also making laws to join suit. Ohio was one of those states and it was going to benefit the Ohio State football program.
Ohio was trying to pass a NIL law too. In fact, it was on track to be passed by July 1. It would have helped not just the Ohio State football program, but sports programs all across the state. Instead, the bill got messed up by typical politics from greedy politicians.
The bill was passed unanimously by the Ohio Senate. After that, Republicans added a transgender sports bill into the NIL bill. Now the bill is in danger of not being passed at all. In fact, there’s almost no way that the bill is passed by the original July 1 deadline.
I don’t care what side of the political spectrum you sit on and I know no one cares where I sit either. If you want to read the specifics of the new proposal, you can google any local news site. But what I am sick of is politicians getting in the way of making things better. They do this all the time at both the state level and the national level. It makes me sick.
All this does is hurt the college athletes in the state of Ohio. Now they will be left behind while the politicians play their games. This also hurts programs like Ohio State who could lose out on top recruits who want to make a lot of money on their name, image, and likeness.
All in all, the politicians in the state couldn’t have done much worse. Now, we’ll see how long it takes them to get this thing passed, if at all.
