In a surprise to no one, Vegas really likes the Ohio State football team that will be out there this year.

Oddsmakers are already releasing point spreads for games this season. WynnBET has made available Ohio State’s four biggest regular-season games and, not surprisingly, the Buckeyes are favored in all.

They didn’t just install Ohio State as favorites in all four. They installed them as big favorites in all four. Some opposing fans are not going to be happy.

WynnBET has made the Buckeyes a 10-point favorite over Oregon, 11 over Indiana, 10 ½ against Penn State, and 11 ½ over Michigan. When you consider Indiana and Michigan are road games, you realize just how big those spreads are. I’m a little surprised Penn State isn’t a point or two higher, but oddsmakers set lines to bring in an equal amount of money on each team. They’re careful to not set it too high or low.

I’m guessing Oregon fans are not going to be happy at all about that ten points. As I’ve said before, they’ve been flapping and quacking at anyone who will listen about how great their team is. The Ohio State football team is a chance to prove their beloved Ducks deserve a seat at the cool kids’ table.

Are these big point spreads surprising? No, not really. It just confirms there are neutral observers who think the Buckeyes are going to be very good. I also think it speaks to the widening gap between Ohio State and the rest of the Big Ten (read my article on that subject here).

The Buckeyes will probably be installed as favorites for their other regular-season games as well. Does anyone remember the last time Ohio State was an underdog during the regular season? As near as I can figure, it was against Michigan in 2018 when the Wolverines rolled into Ohio Stadium in the middle of their ill-fated Revenge Tour. If you took the Buckeyes and the points, you were smiling at the end of that one.

Next. Day hoping for a big end to June. dark

It will be interesting to see how or if these point spreads change as the season develops.
