The Ohio State basketball program has offered a five-star guard out of New Jersey in the 2023 class.

Chris Holtmann has been a really good recruiter since he’s been the head coach of the Ohio State basketball program. He has put together some great recruiting classes since he’s been there, even if all of the classes haven’t stayed together in Columbus.

Holtmann already has the number one recruiting class for 2022 and he is trying to beef up his 2023 class. He’s doing that by offering a five-star guard out of New Jersey. That guard is Simeon Wilcher. He is 6’4 and is one of the best guards in that class.

Wilcher is the 8th best prospect in the country and is the second-best combo guard. He has offers from all of the big basketball schools including Kansas, Duke, Oregon, and Iowa. We can now add Ohio State to that list as Holtmann has given him an offer as well,.

Based on the film I’ve seen of him, Wilcher is someone who has all the tools to be great. He can handle the ball really well. He can also shoot from anywhere on the court, including from three. Wilcher also has the size to rebound and has the speed to do some good things in transition.

The thing that Wilcher seems to do best is pass the ball. He has excellent court vision and gets the ball right where his teammates need it. Even though he’s listed as a combo guard, he has point guard skills. That’s something the Buckeyes haven’t really had in Holtmann’s tenure.

A true point guard is something that the Buckeyes need to make their offense run more efficiently in the half-court. It’s way too early to know where Wilcher will eventually attend. There’s a chance he just turns pro too. But it’s always good to see Holtmann offer really good players.
