The Ohio State football team is trying its best to hold onto a really strong recruit. Can they do it?

It looks like there’s a battle brewing. The Buckeyes appear to be headed for a fight to keep cornerback five-star Jaheim Singletary a part of their 2022 recruiting class.

Singletary, who is from Jacksonville, Florida, has continued to talk with Georgia and Miami since committing to Ohio State in January. He admits to taking what he describes as low-key visits to Miami and told 247 Sports he has a very good relationship with Hurricanes’ assistant coach Travaris Robinson that goes back to when Robinson was at South Carolina. Singletary cites him being one of the first to show interest as the reason he continues to stay in touch,

"“I think he was like my second offer. We just connected when he was at South Carolina. Created that bond. He has always believed in me. Now he’s at Miami, so he’s closer.”"

He said Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is recruiting him hard as well. While appearing on Bucknuts’ Morning 5 podcast yesterday, 247 Sports’ Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong said, “I think Georgia is way in it.” Singeltary visits the Bulldogs this weekend. He will make his first trip of any kind to Ohio State the weekend of June 25th-27th for his official visit and will take his official to Miami in September.

When Wiltfong was asked if Ohio State fans should be worried about Singletary de-committing, his one-word answer was frightening, “Extremely.” He feels the time directly after Singletary’s visit to Ohio State is key,

"“He’s coming to take his official to Ohio State and if he doesn’t shut it down (his recruitment) after his Ohio State official, I’d be extremely nervous about him staying in the class.”"

Looks like it is time for Buckeye fans to hold their breath again. If you haven’t noticed, a lot of that goes on with recruiting.

The 6’1” Singletary is one of the country’s top-five cornerbacks. He is currently the Ohio State football team’s second-highest recruit behind quarterback Quinn Ewers, the nation’s top player. He has very long arms and is described by 247 Sports as being smooth with his footwork, unafraid to be physical with receivers, and will fight to make a play in coverage.

Some feel he can compete for playing time right away. He is one of three cornerbacks who have committed to the Buckeyes so far.
