Ohio State names Athletes of the Year
By Ryan Stano
Ohio State named their athletes of the year today for both men’s and women’s athletics. Most people should recognize the male athlete.
Ohio State has named their male and female Athletes of the Year. This is a big award for those that are awarded this honor. It is a sign of just how good they were in a particular season. Two more athletes are now the newest members of that exclusive club.
The Male Athlete of the Year for Ohio State was Justin Fields. This is no surprise to anyone who follows the Ohio State football team. Fields was unbelievable not just this past season, but in his first season as a Buckeye as well. He was a large reason why the Buckeyes played in the national title a year ago.
Fields was amazing last year. He threw 22 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions in a shortened Ohio State football season. He threw for 2,100 yards and added another 383 on the ground with 5 touchdowns with his feet as well. Simply put, he was fantastic.
The Female Athlete of the Year may be slightly less known, but her accomplishments were no less impressive. That athlete is Adelaide Aquilla, who was a shotputter for the Buckeyes. She won a national title in the indoor shot put and is now preparing for Olympic trials.
Aquilla also holds a school record for the indoor shot put, which she did during her national championship run. She is as impressive as they come and is now the seventh female track and field athlete to be nominated for Female Athlete of the Year.
Fields is the 12th football player to be named Male Athlete of the Year. In fact, he is the third straight football player to be given that honor after Chase Young and Dwayne Haskins won it the last two years respectively.
Congrats to both athletes for their fabulous seasons!
