Everyone has been so into who will be the starting quarterback for the Ohio State football team, and for good reason. But which of the three would make the better backup?

The Ohio State football team has three options for the starting quarterback position. We know the starting job won’t be given until Fall rolls around and real practices start. It is a battle that should come down to the wire, and whoever wins the fight will be the player that Ryan Day thinks gives him the best chance to win.

With that said, which of the quarterbacks would make the best backup? A backup quarterback needs to be ready to go in at a moment’s notice. They need to be good enough to keep a team afloat. They are the person who needs to be super prepared without getting the reps to match.

In my opinion, I believe that C.J. Stroud would make the best backup for that reason, he puts in the work every day to get better. If the starter were to go down, Stroud certainly has the ability to keep the offense humming at a top-level. There’s not much difference between him and the other two guys.

You could make an argument that Stroud should be the starting quarterback. I’m not saying he shouldn’t be. I’m on record saying that I think Kyle McCord should win the job because he is the most talented of the three. That doesn’t mean I don’t think Stroud would be a capable starter.

In fact, I think Stroud will ultimately be the starting quarterback when the Fall rolls around. Based on reports coming out of camp, Stroud just has the command of the locker room a little bit more than the other two guys right now. That doesn’t mean that Stroud wouldn’t be an excellent backup too.

Stroud has the perfect temperament for a backup. He’s well respected, very talented, and will be super prepared when his number is called. He would be an excellent guy to fill this role
