Ohio State Football: Impact of Ryan Day as a recruiter
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has a great coach in Ryan Day. His impact as a recruiter might be his most valuable asset.
Everyone who is involved in college football knows how much recruiting impacts the fortunes of a program. The Ohio State football program is no different. The biggest reason why they have been so good over the past few years is because they have dominated in recruiting.
A large reason why they have dominated in recruiting is because of Ryan Day. Day has been a stellar recruiter since he stepped on campus, even before taking over as Head Coach. When he was the Offensive Coordinator, he was still getting big-time talent to come to Columbus.
Day’s impact as a recruiter has only gotten larger since he took the big job. His track record of being able to develop offensive talent has allowed Ohio State to keep bringing in elite offensive players. His work with transfer quarterback Justin Fields over the last two years certainly helps that as well.
His work with Fields is part of the reason why he was able to land number one prospect Quinn Ewers. He was also able to land Caleb Burton, who is the number four receiver in the country. HIs offensive reputation has preceded him in the recruitment of all of those players.
Day’s impact as a recruiter isn’t just limited to the offensive side of the ball. This class also has a five-star linebacker in C.J. Hicks and a five-star cornerback in Jaheim Singletary. They have good players all over the field in their recruiting class.
This weekend was a huge recruiting weekend for the Buckeyes in terms of visits. It remains to be seen if those visits will result in some commitments from prospects. My guess is that they will soon.
