A former Ohio State football player will start of the NFL season suspended.
Former Ohio State defensive lineman Jashon Cornell has been suspended by the NFL for an unspecified rules violation. He made the announcement on his Twitter page,

"I was informed today by the NFL that I would have to miss the first 3 games of the season. Last year after losing a dear friend of mine I made a mistake that was out of my character. I have owned it and worked on learning from it. Since then I have grown as a person and now a better man. With that being said I apologize to the Lions organization and the fans. I have learned from my mishap."

Cornell was taken by Detroit in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He spent all of last season on injured reserve after tearing his Achilles in August.

Although the Saint Paul, Minnesota native started one game for the Buckeyes in 2018 (vs. Minnesota), he did not become a regular starter until 2019, his final year in the program. Cornell started all fourteen games that season on the way to being named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten. He finished the season with 30 tackles, 6½ tackles-for-loss, and four sacks. Cornell finished his OSU career with 14½ tackles-for-loss and seven sacks.

It’s a shame when any former Ohio State football player gets in trouble. Cornell never had any issues in Columbus and this seems like something that was out of character for him. Hopefully he can learn from this mistake and grow as a person.

Cornell needs to play well this season to keep himself on the roster. As a seventh round pick, he has to prove himself more than other players.
