Ohio State Football hopes to be at full capacity this fall
By Coop Ledford
Ohio Stadium has not seen a sizable crowd since November of 2019, something no one expected or wanted to see. Arenas and stadiums across the country are returning to normal, and hosting full capacity crowds, Ohio State should be as well this season. That includes the Ohio State football program.
“Our hope is that we are at full capacity for our football games.” said Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith earlier today. A simple statement, but one that is music to the ears of Buckeye Nation.
The first day of June has been quite eventful and promising for Ohio State Football, the recruiting dead period has finally ended, and now this comment by Gene Smith. While the COVID-19 Pandemic is not fully behind us yet, this certainly seems like a positive step towards normalcy.
2020 was the strangest college football season of all time. Some teams played full 12-game seasons, some 10 games, and the Big Ten just eight regular season games. Some conferences, mainly southern ones, allowed fans in reduced capacity, while the Big Ten limited attendance to just the families of players and coaches.
2021 promises to be much more normal, the Buckeyes will start the season in early September rather than late October, 12 games are on the regular season schedule, including seven home games, and more than 100,000 fans will fill the seats at Ohio Stadium.
Everyone associated with the football team has to be excited about this. Fans have been chomping at the bit to get back into the Shoe. It will be good for the Buckeyes to actually have a home field advantage again.
