Ohio State football: Oregon AD wants to beat down OSU

Appearing on a radio show, Oregon’s Athletic Director said he wanted to show the Ohio State football team “what Pac-12 football is like”.

The Ohio State football team was supposed to take on Oregon last year in Eugene in perhaps the best non-conference game of the season. Instead, the pandemic canceled that matchup and now the Buckeyes and Ducks will only face each other once in Columbus this September.

In that matchup, Rob Mullens, Oregon’s Athletic Director, apparently wants to beat Ohio State very badly. While speaking on a radio show on Sirius XM, Mullens said he wanted to show OSU “what Pac-12 football is like” and touted that the conference has the most number of national titles.

The fact is, Pac-12 football is soft. They haven’t won anything of consequence since USC won a national title in 2004. Oregon was the last team to make the National Championship Game back in 2014 and got crushed by the Buckeyes in that game.

Ohio State football is superior to Oregon

In fact, Oregon has never beaten Ohio State. They are 0-9 all-time in meetings against the Buckeyes. This is a very good Oregon team and a team that is the defending Pac-12 Champions, but that doesn’t mean much when the conference isn’t very good.

Since the CFP era started, only two teams from the Pac-12 have made the Playoff, those teams being Oregon and Washington. Oregon is the only program to win a game when they beat Florida State in 2014. A Pac-12 team hasn’t made the CFP since 2016.

This comment by Mullens is certain to motivate Ryan Day’s group. His team is going to want to show Oregon what Buckeye football is like. This Ohio State team is still really good even if they are going to be starting a new quarterback.

The Buckeyes will face the Ducks on September 11th in a full Ohio Stadium. That stadium will be rocking.
