The former Ohio State football player will get a chance in the NFL after signing with one of the most prestigious teams in the league.

Former Ohio State receiver Johnnie Dixon is getting another shot at the NFL after signing with Dallas on Monday. He worked out for the team Friday and joins them in time to take part in OTA’s this week.

He joins another former Buckeye, Noah Brown, in what has become a very crowded receiver group for the Cowboys. Dixon is going to have an uphill climb to make the roster, but he is now finally healthy again. According to Patrik Walker of CBS Sports, Dallas likes the idea of the former Buckeye captain as a deep threat.

After going undrafted in 2019, he signed with the Houston Texans. He was cut before the start of the season but was picked up by Arizona and spent the remainder of the season on their practice squad. Much as he had while a member of the Ohio State football program, injuries plagued him and he was put on waivers by the Cardinals last September. He had a recent tryout with the Browns but was not offered a contract.

The Palm Beach Gardens, Florida native was a top ten receiver when he signed with the Buckeyes. As a true freshman, he was a member of the 20-14 national champions, but injuries would limit him to just fourteen games in his first four seasons in Columbus.

In his final season for Ohio State, he caught 42 passes for an average of nearly sixteen yards per catch and eight touchdowns in helping the Buckeyes to a Big Ten championship and Rose Bowl win over Washington. He contributed two catches, including one for a touchdown against the Huskies. Dixon had 67 catches for over 1,100 yards and sixteen touchdowns in his Ohio State career.

If Dixon is not able to make the Cowboys’ roster, the hope is he will stick around long enough to appear in preseason games and sufficiently impress another team to give him another shot at making a roster.
