The Ohio State Buckeyes are in the top ten in the Capital One Cup standings and are within striking distance of first place.

The Capital One Cup is a great thing for colleges and universities all across the country. It ranks the top men’s and women’s programs across the country and assesses them points based on their athletic performances. The top five men’s and women’s programs get money towards their scholarship funds.

As of right now, the Ohio State Buckeyes are doing a good job on the men’s side. They are currently ranked 8th right now with 58 points. They are only two points behind three programs tied at fifth, which are Baylor, Sam Houston State, and Marshall.

The Ohio State football program clearly helped this ranking by making the National Championship Game. They have also been strong in other sports as well, including golf, tennis, and hockey. The basketball team’s strong regular season helped too.

Ohio State does have some time to move up into the money. Fifth place gets $20,000, fourth gets $30,000, third place gets $50,000, second gets $100,000, and the champion gets a whopping $200,000. That’s a lot of money that can go towards athletic scholarships.

It doesn’t seem likely that the Buckeyes can climb their way to the top of the standings, but they can certainly still get into the top five. Fourth seems to be the ceiling for the Buckeyes right now unless they have a strong showing with some Spring sports.

This is a fun thing to keep your eye on throughout the year. All sports count towards this as well, not just the football and basketball programs. We all root for all Buckeye sports here at Scarlet and Game, so we will definitely be watching these standings as more sports finish their seasons.
