Ryan Day is very happy right now as the Head Coach of the Ohio State football team. What would it take to lure him away somewhere else, whether that be another college job or the NFL?

The Ohio State football team struck gold when they hired Ryan Day as their Head Coach. Day has been nothing short of spectacular in his first two years as the headman and could take the teams to even greater heights this season in his third year.

Day has also said that he hopes he can be the coach of this program for the next 20 years. He is happy here and his family is happy here too. He has perhaps a top-2 job in college football, with Alabama perhaps being the only one that is better right now.

With that being said, what would it take for another program, or the NFL, to lure Day away from Columbus? Every man has his price to be lured somewhere else. Day’s price might be higher than some though. That especially is true for another college program.

Let’s get this out of the way right away; no other college program can take Day away from Ohio State. The only way he leaves Ohio State is if he somehow has a terrible downtick in success or if he retires. Day isn’t leaving Columbus for another college job.

That leaves the NFL. Day had been rumored to possibly take the Offensive Coordinator position with the Titans a couple of years ago. There’s no chance he would leave being a head coach for a coordinator position, even if it is in the NFL. He would only leave to be a head coach.

There is really only one job that I can think of that he would leave the Buckeyes for. That job is the New England Patriots job. Day is from New Hampshire and grew up rooting for them. Bill Belichick isn’t going to coach forever. In fact, his time could be coming to an end soon.

New England would have to pay Day a lot of money as well. Day is one of the highest-paid coaches in college football. It would have to be something in the ballpark of $8 or $9 million a year. That is something that is definitely possible for Robert Kraft.

I think that Josh McDaniels is going to inherit that job, so Ohio State football fans don’t need to panic. Day should be leading the Buckeyes for many years to come. I would be very surprised if he took another NFL job.

Can Cade Stover emerge as second TE?. dark. Next

The Buckeyes love Day and he loves them back. That should keep being the case.
