Ohio State football: Haskell Garrett looking for revenge
By Ryan Stano
Haskell Garrett was the most important defensive lineman for the Ohio State football team in 2020. He’s looking for revenge against the media and Alabama in 2021.
Perhaps no player on the Ohio State football team is more underrated than Haskell Garrett. That was certainly true in 2020. Despite being the best defensive lineman for the Buckeyes all season long, he was only listed Third-Team All-Big Ten by the coaches. The media didn’t even put him on the All-Big Ten team.
That was rectified when the AP named him Second-Team All-America, but the damage was done. Garrett is now seeking revenge against the media in 2021 after they snubbed him from their All-Big Ten Team. He’s looking to show them that he’s the best defensive lineman in the Big Ten.
Garrett should be able to do that easily too. He will actually have a full offseason of workouts, unlike last season. COVID prevented him from having a normal offseason, as did a gunshot wound to the face. It was remarkable Garrett even played last season, let alone at the level he did.
Perhaps the biggest piece of revenge Garrett is looking for his revenge against Alabama. The National Championship Game was the only game of the season that the Buckeyes lost. In that game, the Bama offensive line ganged up on Garrett to make sure he wasn’t effective.
He, as well as most other players on the Ohio State football roster, would love to play Bama again and get revenge on them in the CFP. In a similar fashion to what the Buckeyes did to Clemson last season, they want to do the same thing to the Crimson Tide.
Garrett keeping up his strong play will help the Buckeyes achieve that goal. He controls the inside of the line of scrimmage so well. His ability to push the pocket backwards will be key to help Zach Harrison and Tyreke Smith wreak havoc on the outside.
Garrett is one of my favorite Buckeyes on this year’s team and I can’t wait to see what he does in 2021.
