The Ohio State football program is once again losing someone from the program to the transfer portal. This seems to be a trend. Should it worry Buckeye fans?

Once again, the Ohio State football program is losing another player to the transfer portal. Cornerback Tyreke Johnson announced on Twitter that he is leaving and has officially entered the portal. He is a former five-star recruit that never found his footing.

Johnson came into the program in 2018 as a five-star recruit from Jacksonville. He was listed as the second-best safety in the country and the 21st best player in the country overall. Since then, he hasn’t been able to see the field in Columbus really at all.

Johnson has only played in four games the last two seasons and has accumulated just 8 tackles in that time. He clearly hasn’t been able to live up to his five-star billing for whatever reason. That’s a real shame because the secondary is in need of some talent this year.

It’s unclear where Johnson will end up at this time, but it’s very early in the process. I’m sure he will have plenty of strong suitors who are eager to tap into that potential that made him such a highly-ranked recruit. He just has to go wherever is best for him.

As far as the Ohio State football program and losing so many transfers is concerned, this is the nature of the beast in college football now. With the new transfer rules, it’s easier than ever for a player to leave a program if they don’t get playing time right away.

I wouldn’t be worried that Ohio State has had some transfers leave. When you accumulate so much talent, it makes sense that the players who don’t win starting jobs want to leave. Don’t let it worry you.
