The Ohio State football team is trying to rebound after losing a couple of top recruits. It would help if they could grab Kaleb Brown.

Recruiting can be a very fickle and frustrating thing. If you made a movie about it, the title would be The Agony and the Ecstasy. One day you’re in agony over losing a recruit, the next day you’re celebrating gaining one.

Buckeye fans certainly went through this seeing their favorite college football team lose out on former Tennessee linebacker Henry To’o To’o when he decided to transfer to Alabama after many felt he would end up in Columbus.

Now it’s Michigan fans feeling some agony after a receiver they were sure was becoming a Wolverine has been projected to sign with the Buckeyes. Agony for Wolverine fans, ecstasy for Buckeye fans.

Yesterday, Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports predicted Kaleb Brown (Chicago, IL) will become a Buckeye. Nothing is set in stone just yet. Brown has not given a verbal commitment to the Ohio State football team, but it is well known he likes the Buckeyes and has a strong relationship with them.

After speaking with those close to the situation, Wiltfong felt confident enough to make his projection. Michigan fans are not happy, because there were three predictions given last year for Brown to become a Wolverine.

Don’t think for a second recruiting experts like Wiltfong just throw out these predictions on a whim. They do their research and are in constant contact with other insiders, coaches, and even the players and their families.

These guys are serious about what they do. Wiltfong has made 129 projections so far this year. He’s been correct on 125 of them. That’s nearly 97 percent. I’ll take that and give you pretty good odds Brown is going to commit to the Buckeyes at some point.

What will the Buckeyes get if Brown does join them? He’s the number six receiver and a top-one hundred player nationally. Along with Caleb Burton, who is already committed to OSU, this would give Ohio State two of the country’s top six pass-catchers; Burton is rated fourth.

At 5’11” and 177 pounds, he would continue the trend of the Ohio State football program recruiting smaller receivers in the 2022 class. Burton (6’0”) and Kyion Graves (6’1”) weigh no more than 170 pounds each. Ohio State receivers coach Brian Hartline continues to pack his room with more and more talent.

Recruiting is very fluid; things are constantly changing. Don’t get too caught up in the agony and ecstasy of it all. By the way, The Agony and the Ecstasy is the title of an actual 1965 movie. It’s pretty much the story of Michelangelo and Pope Julius II arguing about how to paint some ceiling. Not sure why a movie had to be made about this; husbands and wives argue about this all of the time.
