The former Ohio State football coach has now shown why he won’t succeed in the NFL due to valuing personal relationships over football sense.

Urban Meyer is one of the best coaches in Ohio State football history. Let me get that out of the way right now. He won a national title with the Buckeyes and had an undefeated season his first year at the helm in 2012. He was an excellent recruiter too. Those are all tools you need to have to succeed in college.

The NFL is a different beast. Personal relationships with players don’t matter as much as accumulating talent. This is something that Meyer clearly hasn’t learned yet. That’s clear as day after Meyer decided to sign Tim Tebow to a one-year deal.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport announced the Jaguars’ intention on Twitter.

Not only has Tebow not played football for several years (his last year was six years ago with the Philidelphia Eagles), but he has now switched from quarterback to tight end. How would Tebow possibly add any value to an NFL team on the field as a tight end?

Maybe Meyer isn’t expecting him to. Maybe he is bringing Tebow in to strictly be a locker room guy who can help the work ethic increase in a team that was the worst team in the NFL last season. That’s the only reason I can think of to reasonably bring him in.

Even so, why waste a roster spot on this guy? I would be shocked if he made the team once training camp ended. If these are types of signings Meyer is going to make, his NFL stint will be a short and unsuccessful one.

Zach Harrison can help himself with big 2021. dark. Next

Meyer needs to sign players who can actually help the team on the field. This isn’t Ohio State anymore. This is the big leagues.
